Ford city is set to open its doors next month to the world for the first time in 25 years.
The Gems City Ford gem mine has been open since it opened in 2007.
The mining town of Ford is a gem city fords largest gem mine, and is home to the city of Fords Diamond Gem.
Gem City Fords owner and chairman, Richard Jones said it was the right time to open the doors to local people.
“It’s been a very long time for the city to be open and a very short time for people to be able to come in and work and go to the shops and the cafes and the restaurants,” Mr Jones said.
“We’re going to have people coming from all over the country and they’re going the same place to do the same thing.”
The opening of the gem city in Fords will coincide with the opening of an extension to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which is due to open in early 2018.
The city’s gem mine is one of the world’s largest and employs about 6,000 people, but Mr Jones is confident the project will be able sustain its employment rate for years to come.
“If we’re able to keep the job rate going, then it’s going to keep going,” Mr Moore said.
He said the new mine would also benefit the region’s environment, by enabling local jobs to be relocated to the Fords.
“The gem industry is a very important part of the economy for Fords,” Mr Hughes said.
